COL BKB: Duke 82, Rhode Island 79

DURHAM, N.C., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Jon Scheyer scored 23 points and made 13-of-13 free throws Sunday afternoon, helping the fifth-ranked Duke Blue Devils beat Rhode Island 82-79.

The win helped the Blue Devils improve to 3-0 at the start of the 2008-09 college basketball season.

Kyle Singler's two free throws with 19.4 seconds remaining secured the victory. Singler finished with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Nolan Smith and Lance Thomas scored 10 points apiece for the Blue Devils, who were playing for the third time in six days, but recorded an NCAA-record 62nd straight non-conference home-court victory.

URI was led by Jimmy Baron's 24 points. Delroy James scored 21 with eight rebounds, while Keith Cochran added 10 points and four assists for the Rams (1-1).
