LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Darren Collison and Josh Shipp produced UCLA's last six points from the free throw line Thursday and the No. 4 Bruins eked out a 64-59 win over Miami (Ohio).

UCLA avoided what would have been the first big shock of the college basketball season and advanced to the semifinals of the 2K Sports Classic. The semifinals and finals will be played next week in New York.

Collison gave the Bruins a four-point lead by making two free throws with 2:13 to play and neither side scored again until Eric Pollitz made a three-pointer with 54 seconds left that drew the Redhawks within one.

Collison made two more foul shots with 21 seconds to go, after which Kenny Hayes missed what would have been a game-tying three-pointer. Shipp closed out the scoring by making two free throws with five seconds left.

UCLA won its season opener in the tournament's first round Wednesday against Prairie View A&M.

The first full round of games of the college campaign will take place Friday with 10 of the pre-season top 25 teams in action around the country.
