OTTAWA, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Trent Hunter put New York ahead late in the second period Thursday and the Islanders went on to end a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 decision over Ottawa.
The Islanders came into the game with 10 points for the season, fewest in the NHL.
Joey MacDonald, who had been winless in his previous three starts, gave up a power-play goal to Filip Kuba just 1:53 into the game. The Islanders' goaltender was perfect the rest of the way, stopping 29 shots.
Kyle Okposo tied it on the power play with 7:28 to play in the first period and Hunter gave the Islanders the lead with a backhander that got past Alex Auld.
Bill Guerin produced some insurance 2:31 into the third when he re-directed a shot from Doug Weight.
Auld allowed three goals on 31 shots.
The Senators lost their third in a row.
