UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Mike Richards scored the winning goal midway through the third period Tuesday in the Philadelphia Flyers' 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

Danny Briere and Kimmo Timmonen also scored for the Flyers, who broke a three- game losing streak. Martin Biron made 35 saves to improve his record to 4-5-1 on the season.

Trent Hunter scored the lone goal for the Islanders, who have lost three in a row. Islanders goaltender Joey MacDonald fell to 4-6-2 despite stopping 29-of-31 shots.

"Not capitalizing ([on the power play) obviously hurt us because we certainly controlled the play and had plenty of chances five-on-five," said Islanders Coach Scott Gordon.
