SHANGHAI, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Sergio Garcia birdied the second playoff hole Monday to defeat Ryder Cup teammate Oliver Wilson in the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai.

Garcia closed with a 4-under 68 to finish at 14-under 274. Wilson, who led after the third round, had a 70 to join Garcia at 14-under and force the playoff.

Both two-putted for par on the first playoff hole. They the played the same hole again and Wilson had nearly the same putt as he did the first time around, and missed a 15-foot birdie putt left of the hole. Garcia, 12 feet out, rolled his putt in for birdie and his eighth European Tour win.

The Monday finish was needed after Friday's play was washed out and there also was a long delay Saturday,

"It's been a long week." said Garcia, who has won twice in the last three events. "I think that was my fourth playoff this year."
