Venus tops Zvonareva for Sony championship

DOHA, Qatar, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- American Venus Williams dropped the opening set then trounced Russia's Vera Zvonareva in the next two Sunday to win the Sony Ericsson Championships in Qatar.

Williams won the WTA's season-ending event 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 6-2.

The U.S. star, who finished the season ranked No. 6 in the world, has three titles in 2008 and 39 in her career.

Williams has an overall 6-1 record against Zvonareva, who is ranked No. 7.
