HOUSTON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Dane Richards gave New York the lead with a goal in the 25th minute and the Red Bulls went on to upset Houston 3-0 Sunday in the Major League Soccer playoffs.

Richards also had an assist, helping New York win its Western Conference semifinal series against the Dynamo. The Bulls had a 4-1 total goals advantage in the home-on-home engagement. The teams had tied 1-1 in the other contest.
