Jags deactivate, fine Peterson

DETROIT, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars de-activated middle linebacker Mike Peterson for Sunday's contest at Detroit and fined him $10,000 for "insubordination."

The volatile 10-year veteran sent home twice last week by Coach Jack Del Rio, once after being tossed out of a team meeting Wednesday.

Following a face-to-face Friday morning, Peterson returned later in the day, but his playing status was delayed until Sunday afternoon.

"It's private," said Peterson Friday. "I'd like to keep it behind closed doors."

"We put an end to this," Del Rio said. "We had a nice, private discussion and we'll move on from here."

Initially, he angered Del Rio for a muscle-flexing celebration after a sack in last Sunday's loss to Cincinnati.

At the time, the Jaguars faced a 21-3 deficit.

Peterson, 32, one of the team's captains, leads Jacksonville's defense with 49 tackles in nine games.
