NHL: Pittsburgh 4, N.Y. Islanders 3 (SO)

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Petr Sykora scored the only goal in a shootout Saturday night when the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New York Rangers 4-3 for their third straight win.

The shootout was necessary after a scoreless overtime following a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation.

Pittsburgh center Tyler Kennedy scored twice in regulation, including a game-tying goal at 16:45 of the third period. Center Jordan Staal scored once.

Center Mike Zigomanis had two assists while Penguins goalie Dany Sabourin made 19 saves on 22 shots through overtime and three others in the shootout.

New York got one goal and one assist from centers Doug Weight and Andy Hilbert. Right wing Tim Jackman also scored and goalie Joey MacDonald surrendered three goals after 32 shots in the Islanders' eighth loss in their last 10 outings.

Pittsburgh has won four of five and six of their last eight games against the Islanders.
