LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Brian Boyle and Tom Preissing both scored late in the first period, sending the Los Angeles Kings on their way to a much-needed 3-2 win over Florida.
The Kings ended a five-game losing streak and handed the Panthers their fifth straight setback.
Boyle scored his first goal of the season with 3:33 to play in the first on a wrist shot that beat Tomas Vokoun. Preissing produced a power-play goal with 1:22 to go in the period.
Anthony Stewart brought Florida within a goal 2:09 into the third, after which Dustin Brown gave the Kings some valuable insurance midway through the final period. Brown's goal turned out to be the game-winner when Nathan Horton scored shorthanded with 51 seconds remaining.
Erik Ersberg had to make only 13 saves to get the win.
Florida remained stuck on nine points this season, joining the New York Islanders as the only teams in the NHL yet to reach the 10-point mark.
