PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Brandon Roy hit a three-point shot as the buzzer sounded in overtime Thursday, giving the Portland Trail Blazers a dramatic 101-99 victory over Houston.
The teams combined to score eight points in the final 1.9 seconds.
Roy appeared to have given the Trail Blazers the win when he hit a turnaround jumper with 1.9 seconds to go. Houston called a time out and quickly got the ball down to Yao Ming along the baseline and his jumper went through with eight-tenths of a second to play.
Yao was fouled on the shot by Roy and the ensuing free throw put Houston ahead by one.
Portland then called its final time out, after which Joel Przybilla inbounded the ball to Roy, who caught it as he was already going up for a shot midway between the three-point line and midcourt.
Officials spent two minutes looking at a videotape replay before confirming that Roy got the shot off before the buzzer sounded.
After winning its first three games of the season, Houston has lost two in a row.
LaMarcus Aldridge led Portland with 27 points and Roy had 17.
Tracy McGrady scored 30 for Houston. McGrady's two free throws with 62 seconds left provided the final points in regulation.
