Tuomo Ruutu slipped the puck to Wallin, who was all alone at the point and fired a slap shot that beat Vesa Toskala on the glove side.
Ruutu and Chad LaRose both had a goal and an assist for Carolina, which won consecutive games for the first time since opening the 2008-09 season. Cam Ward stopped 38-of-42 shots to pick up the win.
Mikhail Grabovski had two goals and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who have lost three of their last five games. Niklas Hagman had a goal and an assist and rookie Nikolai Kulemin two assists.
Toskala allowed five goals on 24 shots to take the loss.
