Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
CHICAGO, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Chicago quarterback Rex Grossman ran for the winning score and the Bears' defense caused three second-half turnovers Sunday in a 27-23 win over Detroit.
With Chicago trailing 23-20, Grossman scored from 1 yard out with 5:36 left in the fourth quarter, putting the Bears ahead to stay.
Grossman, subbing for the injured Kyle Orton, led the Bears (5-3) on two touchdown drives in the second half.
Orton suffered an ankle injury and left late in the first half.
The two Bears quarterbacks combined for 166 yards passing and Orton also scored a rushing touchdown.
Matt Forte ran for 122 yards on 22 carries and Rashied Davis caught five passes for 64 yards and a touchdown for the Bears, who took sole possession of first place in the NFC North, a game ahead of Green Bay, which fell to Tennessee in overtime, 19-16.
Dan Orlovsky completed 28-of-47 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns for the Lions (0-8), but was picked off twice.
Calvin Johnson registered eight catches for 94 yards and a touchdown for Detroit, which has lost nine straight games going back to the 2007 season.
