Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
IRVING, Texas, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Unblemished Alabama rose to No. 1 when the latest USA Today college football poll was issued Sunday in the wake of Texas' tumble from the ranks of the unbeaten.
The Crimson Tide (9-0) supplanted Texas after their 35-0 rout of Arkansas State, while the Longhorns (8-1) lost 39-33 to Big 12 Conference foe Texas Tech.
Idle Penn State (9-0) is second, the Red Raiders (9-0) third, Oklahoma (8-1) fourth and Florida (7-1) fifth.
Southern California (7-1), the Longhorns, Oklahoma State (8-1), Utah (9-0) and Boise State (9-0) complete the top 10.
TCU leads the second 10, followed by Ohio State, Missouri, Georgia, LSU, Brigham Young, Michigan State, Ball State, North Carolina and Georgia Tech.
The Bulldogs, rated No. 1 in the preseason, were crushed 49-10 by the Gators.
Rounding out the poll are Maryland, California, West Virginia, Florida State and Northwestern.
The Wildcats beat No. 20 Minnesota 24-17 when reserve quarterback Mike Kafka rushed for a school-record 217 yards, knocking the Golden Gophers out of the rankings.
