Alabama leads latest BCS rankings

IRVING, Texas, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Alabama took over the top spot when the latest BCS college football poll was released Sunday night.

The Crimson Tide (9-0) also grabbed the No. 1 ranking in the USA Today coaches poll released earlier in the day.

Alabama trounced Arkansas State 35-0 Saturday, while last week's leader Texas (8-1) lost 39-33 to Big 12 rival Texas Tech (9-0).

Alabama's average in a complicated ratings system was .9747.

The Red Raiders' victory helped them grab the No. 2 spot in the BCS poll with a .9372 rating.

Penn State, the Longhorns, Florida, Oklahoma, Southern California, Utah, Oklahoma State, and Boise State completed the BCS top 10.

Spots 11-25 were filled by Ohio State, TCU, Georgia, Missouri, Brigham Young, reigning national champion LSU, Ball State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, California, Florida State, Maryland, Northwestern and West Virginia.

The first- and second-ranked schools will play in the BCS national title game Jan. 8, 2009, in Miami.
