Petrova wins Quebec City quarterfinal

QUEBEC CITY, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Russia's Nadia Petrova led Friday's quarterfinal winners at the Bell Challenge women's tennis tournament in Quebec City.

The world's 11th-ranked player was an easy 6-1, 6-4 winner over unseeded Melinda Czink of Hungary.

Petrova cruised through the first set, and fought off a minor Czink rally in the second.

The Russian has dropped a total of 14 games on the way to the Saturday's semifinals.

In other quarterfinal matches, Canada's Aleksandra Wozniak, the fifth seed, trounced Russia's Galina Voskoboeva, 6-2, 6-2; No. 6 seed Bethanie Mattek of the United States was a 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 winner against fellow American Melanie Oudin; and, in a battle between non-seeds, Angela Haynes of the United States bounced back from a first-set loss to down France's Nathalie Dechy, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

Saturday's semifinals are Petrova-Haynes and Wozniacki-Mattek.

The 2008 Quebec champion will collect $28,000 by winning Sunday's final.
