Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- LaMarcus Aldridge gave Portland a three-point lead with 33 seconds remaining Friday and the Trail Blazers held on to edge San Antonio 100-99.
The Blazers survived a last-second attempt by the Spurs' Michael Finley.
After Aldridge hit his jump shot to give Portland a 100-97 advantage, Tony Parker made two free throws for the game's final points.
Portland then let the shot clock run down before Travis Outlaw missed a jump shot, giving the Spurs a final chance to win the game. Finley's miss, however, allowed the Blazers to escape with their first victory of the year.
San Antonio has lost its opening two games.
Brandon Roy led Portland with 26 points and Aldridge added 23.
Tim Duncan scored 27 for the Spurs.
