EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Juan Pablo Angel scored for New York and Kei Kamara scored for Houston Saturday when the Red Bulls and the Dynamo opened their playoff series with a 1-1 tie.

After a scoreless first half, Angel scored on a header into the far post past Houston goalie Pat Onstad early in the second half. Kamara evened it up late in the match, controlling a loose ball in front of the Houston net and driving the ball home in the 85th minute.

New York outshot the two-time defending MLS champion Dynamo 14-8.

Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinal Series is set for Nov. 9 in Houston.
