Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NASHVILLE, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Pekka Rinne, making his second start of the season, saved 27 shots Thursday to carry the Nashville Predators to a 3-1 win over struggling Edmonton.
After winning their first four games of the season, the Oilers have lost five in a row. They have scored no more than one goal in any of those losses.
Shea Weber scored his fourth goal of the season 1:28 into the second period to give the Predators a 2-0 lead. Edmonton's Sheldon Souray delivered a power-play goal two minutes later, but Rinne was perfect the rest of the way.
Martin Erat gave Nashville some insurance midway through the third by scoring on a slapshot.
Mathieu Garon stopped 22 of 25 shots for the Oilers.
