MILWAUKEE, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Ken Macha, who won a pair of division titles while managing the Oakland Athletics, is set to become the next manager of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Milwaukee fired Manager Ned Yost with 12 games left in the regular season. Dale Sveum took over the team for the end of the regular season and through the playoffs, where the Brewers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, but was told he wouldn't be retained as manager.
Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin reportedly turned to Macha, whom he first considered for the team's managerial position after the 2002 season, when he eventually hired Yost.
Macha took over the A's instead, posting a 368-280 record over four years. The A's won division titles in 2003 and 2006. He was fired after Oakland lost the 2006 American League Championship series to Detroit.
Macha was a studio analyst for television broadcasts of Boston Red Sox games of the last two seasons.
