CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- North Carolina basketball Coach Roy Williams announced Thursday forward Tyler Hansbrough will be out indefinitely with a stress condition in his right shin.

Hansbrough, a senior, was named the national player of the year for the 2007-08 college basketball season.

Williams said the injury was revealed in an MRI. He said he would have more to say about the injury after visiting with doctors and Hansbrough Friday.

Hansbrough averaged 22.6 points and 10.2 rebounds last year while the Tar Heels were winning a school-record 36 games.

North Carolina, the pre-season No. 1 pick in the coaches' poll, opens its campaign Nov. 15 against Pennsylvania. The Tar Heels fell in last season's national semifinals to eventual champion Kansas.
