Petrova wins Bell Challenge Opener

QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Nadia Petrova cruised past fellow Russian Maria Mokh 6-1, 6-2 Tuesday in the first round of the Bell Challenge in Canada.

Fifth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada defeated Romania's Edina Gallovits 6-4, 6-3, and seventh-seeded Belarus star Olga Govortsova beat American Vania King 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

American Angela Haynes defeated Canadian Stephanie Dubois 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

In upsets, France's Severine Bremond beat fourth-seeded Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-2, 7-6 (7-4); Kazakhstan's Galina Voskoboeva beat eighth-seeded Swede Sofia Arvidsson 6-3, 6-2; and Hungarian Melinda Czink defeated ninth-seeded German Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
