Sluman, a two-time winner on the Champions Tour this year, is 11-under 131 after 36 holes. Only Eduardo Romero and Bernhard Langer have won three times on the tour this season.

Defending champion John Cook had a 63 to move into a tie for second place at 132 with first-round leader Mark James (69).

Sluman shared seventh place to start the day, but birdied three of the first four holes to jump to 7-under.

"I got off to the start you want," Sluman said. "That settled me in. I've been coming here since the 1980's. It helps to be familiar with the golf course. I've been playing well, but historically I've never had any good chances to win here."

If Sluman hangs on for the win, he would be the sixth consecutive senior rookie to win this title.

Federer, Nalbandian to meet in Basel tennis final

BASEL, Switzerland, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Swiss Roger Federer and second-seeded Argentine David Nalbandian face off Sunday in the final of the Swiss Indoors tennis tournament.

Federer defeated Spain's Feliciano Lopez in straight sets in Saturday's semifinals. Federer, two-time defending champion in his hometown, had 15 aces and 28-of-31 first service points to beat the unseeded Lopez 6-3, 6-2.

Lopez beat two Americans -- eighth-seeded Mardy Fish in the second round and fourth-seeded James Blake in the quarterfinals -- to set up his first matchup with Federer since last year's Madrid Masters.

Nalbandian edged third-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro, also in straight sets, in Saturday's other semifinal. Nalbandian avenged his straight-set loss to Del Potro in the third round of last week's Madrid Masters with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Nalbandian, the Stockholm Open champ two weeks ago and the 2002 champion in this event, will play in his fourth Basel final.
