BALTIMORE, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- The NFL is investigating Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs for an alleged comment about there being a bounty on Pittsburgh wide receiver Hines Ward.

Suggs, voted the AFC's top defensive player for last Sunday, told a Pittsburgh radio program this week that Ward is a "dirty player" and a "cheap shot artist." However, Suggs later refuted the "bounty" claim when speaking to The Baltimore Sun.

"There wasn't any bounty," Suggs told the newspaper Thursday. "(The reporter) asked me if there was a bounty and I just said I'm going to keep a watch on the guy. He broke some guy's jaw last week, and he also has also cheap-shotted (Ravens safety) Ed Reed. We're just going to be on alert the next time we play him. It's like the guy in your neighborhood who always pulls your shorts down and your drawers show, well, you always have to be on the lookout. You have to be alert."

The Ravens and Steelers are scheduled to meet Dec. 14.
