CASTELLON, Spain, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Soren Kjeldsen shot 7-under-par 64 and has a one-stroke lead over three others after 18 holes of the European Tour's Costello Masters golf tournament.

The native of Copenhagen, Denmark, made eight birdies before a bogey at the par-5 17th and a closing par led to the slim advantage over Argentina's Angel Cabrera, England's Richard Finch, and Ignacio Garrido of Spain.

"It was a very solid round," said Kjeldsen. "I'm playing well as I did last week at the Portugal Masters (but) there's still a long way to go this week. This is a good start."

Finch and Cabrera were bogey free, while a bogey at the par-4 18th kept Garrido from sharing a piece of the first-round lead.

Last week's winner at the Portugal Masters, Alvaro Quiros, is one of 11 golfers tied for 13th place at 4-under 67.

The event, being played at Club de Campo del Mediterraneo, is a first-time tournament on the European Tour.
