Dementieva through to Luxembourg quarters

LUXEMBOURG, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Elena Dementieva posted an efficient straight-set victory Thursday in second-round play of the $225,000 Luxembourg Championships tennis tournament.

Dementieva had her serve broken just once and won more than half of the receiving points in a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gisela Dulko to advance to Friday's quarterfinals of the hard-court tournament.

She next goes against fifth-seeded Amelie Mauresmo, who was on the court less than an hour Thursday during her 6-3, 6-1 romp over Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

Also in second-round action, seventh-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues defeated Catalina Castano, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. She will play fourth-seeded Carolina Wozniacki in the quarterfinals.

The other quarterfinal matches have No. 3-seeded Daniela Hantuchova meeting eighth-seeded Sorana Cirstea and sixth-seeded Na Li playing Iveta Benesova.

The tournament continues through Sunday when the champion will take home $35,000.
