BARCELONA, Spain, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Hall of Fame golfer Seve Ballesteros faces additional surgery after tests indicated a brain tumor he had removed was cancerous.

Doctors said Ballesteros would have brain surgery Friday, the third such procedure since Ballesteros collapsed Oct. 6 at a Madrid airport. He underwent 12 hours of surgery to remove the tumor and then had part of his skull removed to ease pressure from swelling.

Friday's procedure is to remove the remainder of the tumor and relieve pressure on his brain, said physicians at La Paz Hospital in Madrid.

A statement from the hospital said the tumor affects cells that cover and protect and nervous system cells in the brain and spinal cord and is in a hard to reach location.

Ballesteros was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1999. He has five major titles -- three British Open championship and two wins at The Masters -- in his career. His 50 European Tour victories top the all-time list there and he had 87 total tournament victories.
