TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Vinny Lecavalier's power-play goal 1:41 into overtime Tuesday brought Barry Melrose his first win as coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning -- 3-2 over Atlanta.
Tampa Bay had opened the season with five losses (0-2-3), all of the setbacks being by one goal.
Mark Recchi and Vinny Prospal also scored for Tampa Bay and Mike Smith made 31 saves. The Lightning peppered goaltender Kari Lehtonen with 38 shots.
Atlanta came back from a two-goal deficit and tied it with 36 seconds remaining in regulation.
Tampa Bay went on the power play 1:11 into overtime when Bryan Little was called for tripping. Lecavalier then scored from the slot off a feed from Martin St. Louis.
