Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Milan Hejduk and David Jones scored in the second period, and Ryan Smyth scored twice to lead Colorado over Los Angeles 4-3 Monday.
Peter Budaj stopped 26 shots for Colorado.
The Avalanche have won three in a row after dropping their first three to start the season. The Kings had won their previous two games.
Drew Doughty, 18, the second overall pick in this year's draft, got his first career goal, while Oscar Moller and Patrick O'Sullivan also scored for Los Angeles.
LaBarbera allowed four goals on just 14 shots before being pulled after two periods. Erik Ersberg faced two shots in the third, saving both.
