MARTINSVILLE, Va., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Jimmie Johnson led 339-of-504 laps on the way to a dominant victory at Sunday's Tums QuikPak 500 Sprint Cup auto race at the Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
By winning for the sixth time this season and the 39th time in his Sprint Cup career, the two-time points champion, driving his normal No. 48 Chevrolet, extended his lead in the championship standings to 149 points over Greg Biffle with four races remaining in the season-ending "Race for the Chase."
"I can't explain it," the Hendrick Motorsport driver said in a post-race television interview after his fourth win in his last eight races and his 13th straight top-10 finish at the Speedway. "It's been good to me (and) I'm very proud of this race team."
Sunday's runner-up was Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin completed the top five finishers.
In the standings, Jeff Burton (-152) is third; Carl Edwards (-198) fourth, and Clint Bowyer (-246) is fifth.
