Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24


MADRID, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Scotland's Andy Murray claimed the Madrid Masters championship Sunday with a straight-set win over Gilles Simon of France.
The 21-year-old Murray, who upset second-ranked Roger Federer in the semifinals, won 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) .
Murray was seeded fourth. Simon, unseeded, had knocked off world No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the semis.
The Scot, who was runner-up to Federer in the U.S. Open, is ranked No. 4 in the world behind Nadal, Federer and Novak Djokovic.
"I've played great the last few months, but those guys have been unbelievable for the last couple of years, so consistent on every surface and throughout the whole year," Murray said.
