DALLAS, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Milan Hejduk scored goals in the first and second periods Saturday when the Colorado Avalanche registered a 5-4 win over Dallas.

The right wing scored at 6:44 of the first period and at 5:29 (power play) of the second.

The latter tally snapped a 2-2 tie, and the 3-2 score put Colorado in front for good.

Darcy Tucker, Ryan Smyth (power play), and Tyler Arnason all scored once.

Three players were credited with two assists, while goaltender Andrew Raycroft finished with 26 saves on 30 shots for the Avalanche, who have won two straight after losing their first three games in the new NHL season.

Dallas center Brad Richards had a goal and an assist.

Fabian Brunnstrom (power play), James Neal, and Loui Eriksson also scored once, and netminder Marty Turco was beaten five times on 22 shots in the Stars' second straight defeat.

Dallas defenseman Doug Janik left in the second period, but no reason was disclosed.
