Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

KAPALUA, Hawaii, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Suzann Pettersen, looking for her first victory this year after winning five times in 2007, took the lead Thursday in the opening round of the Kapalua Classic.
Pettersen shot a 4-under 68 at the Bay Course at the Kapalua Resort, giving her a one-shot lead over Brittany Lang and Tracy Hanson. Among those tied for fourth at 70 were Laura Diaz and Brandie Burton.
Lorena Ochoa, a seven-time winner on the LPGA Tour this year, settled for a 74. Annika Sorenstam, nearing the end of what she has said will be the final season of her career, struggled to a 77.
Among Pettersen's five wins last year was her first major title at the LPGA Championship. She has seven top-10 finishes this season without a victory.
