NHL: Colorado 5, Philadelphia 2

DALLAS, Colo., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Paul Stastny had a goal and an assist Thursday in boosting Colorado to its first win of the season -- 5-2 over Philadelphia.

The Avalanche had suffered three straight one-goal losses to open the campaign.

Milan Hejduk, Marek Svatos, Brett Clark and Cody McCormick also scored for Colorado. Joe Sakic had three assists and Andrew Raycroft made 16 saves in his Avalanche debut.

Raycorft came to Colorado in free agency this season after spending two years with Toronto.

Philadelphia remained winless (0-3-1).

Colorado outshot Philadelphia in the opening period 17-3 while building a 2-0 lead. Martin Biron surrendered five goals overall on 34 shots.
