Blues goalie has appendectomy

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- St. Louis Blues goaltender Chris Mason has undergone an emergency appendectomy.

Blues President John Davidson made the announcement before Friday night's home contest at the Savvis Center against the Dallas Stars.

Mason, in his first season with St. Louis following six with the Nashville Predators, had the procedure performed Thursday night and will miss about two weeks.

No other details were disclosed.

He surrendered four goals in his lone appearance this season, a 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders last Saturday.

"The only thing that gets you through it is your belief system in yourself," he said after his effort against the Islanders. "If you let other people dictate how you feel, then you're done. I always thought if I kept going, one day I'd be lucky enough to be here."
