TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Tickets to the 2009 Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla., will cost more than any other previous incarnation of the NFL championship, league officials say.

The Tampa (Fla.) Tribune said Thursday that for the first time in the history of the NFL, a single Super Bowl ticket is being sold for $1,000.

NFL officials announced tickets for the 2009 event at Tampa's Raymond Jones Stadium will have a face value of $800 and $1,000.

The record-setting ticket price comes after the last Super Bowl featured tickets costing $700 and $900, the Tribune said.

NFL Vice President of Corporate Communications Brian McCarthy told the newspaper the league is considering offering a limited number of discounted tickets for the Feb. 1 event.
