TORONTO, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Brad Boyes scored the winning goal in a shootout Monday, giving the St. Louis Blues a 5-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Boyes went from his backhand to his forehand and slid the puck behind Vesa Toskala for the lead. Manny Legace then made a glove save on Pavel Kubina's shot for the win.
Boyes also had a goal in regulation play. Paul Kariya and Patrik Berglund each had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who have won two of three to start the season. Andy McDonald had his third straight two-assist game while Legace made 35 saves in the win.
Niklas Hagman, Tomas Kaberle, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Nikolai Kulemin each had a goal for the Maple Leafs, who have lost their last two games. Toskala finished with 22 saves.
The Maple Leafs dominated the first period from start to finish and held a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
