MADRID, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Carl Schwartzel beat Ricardo Gonzalez by three strokes Sunday to capture the European Golf Tour's Madrid Masters golf tournament.
In the final 18 holes, the South African shot 5-under-par 66, making his four-round total 19-under 265 at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid for his third European Tour title.
"I felt like I played really well out there today," said Schwartzel. "I managed to keep it together. I'm very, very pleased. It seems like Madrid is the place for me. I'd like to see a couple more tournaments in Madrid."
He won 2007's Spanish Open, also in Madrid.
At 16-under 268, Argentina's Gonzalez (68) finished alone in second place.
Spain's Pablo Larrazabal (67) ended 15-under 268, good for third, and at 14-under 270, England's Robert Rock (64) and Alvaro Quiros (64) of Spain shared fourth.
Rock was in position to challenge the winner, but bogeyed the 18th and final hole.
