NHL: N.Y. Islanders 5, St. Louis 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Mike Comrie, Trent Hunter, Sean Bergenheim and Andy Hilbert scored first-period goals Saturday and the New York Islanders easily beat St. Louis 5-2.

Bill Guerin capped the scoring for the Islanders with an empty-net goal with 49 seconds left in the third.

Defenseman Bruno Gervais had two assists, while goaltender Joey McDonald stopped 24 of 26 shots in the Islanders' first victory in the 2008-09 season.

St. Louis' Brad Boyes and Keith Tkachuk scored once each. Paul Kariya and Andy McDonald both had two assists, while Blues' netminder Chris Mason surrendered four goals on 33 shots.

St. Louis had erupted for four power-play goals in a 5-2 victory over Nashville Friday.
