
LARAMIE, Wyo., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The 13th-ranked Utah Utes scored on an interception and a blocked punt Saturday to overpower the Wyoming Cowboys 40-7.
Brian Johnson completed 10-of-19 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown for the Utes (7-0, 3-0 Mountain West), who are off to their best start since going 12-0 in 2004. Matt Asiata had a receiving touchdown and a running TD for the Utes.
Sean Smith had returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown and Aiona Key blocked a punt and ran it in for a TD for Utah, which has won 15 of its last 16 games.
Karsten Sween started at quarterback for Wyoming (2-5, 0-4), but was pulled after completing 8-of-18 passes for 52 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. Chris Stutzriem threw a fourth-quarter touchdown to Greg Bolling, which helped the Cowboys avoid their third shutout in four games.
Devin Moore gained 106 yards on 23 carries for Wyoming.
