PGA Tour Money List 2009

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Chris Stroud, who ranks only 209th on the money list in what has been an injury-plagued year for him, took the lead Friday midway through the Texas Open.

Stroud, who must climb into the top 125 in money earnings to retain his spot on the PGA Tour next year, shot a 6-under 64 in the second round for a 10-under 130 total.

This is the first time Stroud has held the lead at the 36-hole mark of a tour event. He has been bothered by an assortment of injuries during the season, chiefly pain in his knees.

Tied for second at 132 were Paul Goydos, Tim Herron and Tim Petrovic. Goydos let a lead slip away during the final round of The Players Championship this year and eventually lost to Sergio Garcia in a playoff.

Stroud, 26, said his game had only recently been rounding into form.

"I'm really starting to hit the ball better," he said. "I wish it would have happened a few weeks ago or a few months ago. Putting is going well. I'm working hard on staying very, very calm and level out there. The more laid back I am, the better I play."

First-round leader Nathan Green shot a 75 Friday and was tied for 41st at 137. Defending champion Justin Leonard barely made the cut at 139, but Davis Love III and David Duval missed their chance to play on the weekend.
