NHL: San Jose 4, Anaheim 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Jonathan Cheechoo scored twice early in the second period Thursday and the San Jose Sharks opened their season by coasting to a 4-1 victory over Anaheim.

Cheechoo began the scoring just 2:32 into the second and then delivered a power-play goal at 6:44.

Christian Ehrhoff and Devin Setoguchi both scored in the third period and Evgeni Nabokov made 25 saves.

Nabokov became one of the NHL's top goaltenders last year, recording 46 wins and a goals-against average of 2.14.

Rob Niedermayer scored Anaheim's only goal with 5:25 to play.

San Jose fired 41 shots at Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
