SANDY, Utah, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Dave van den Bergh and Jamison Olave scored first-half goals Thursday, resulting in New York and Real Salt Lake playing to a 1-1 tie.

The game was the first ever played in Rio Tinto Stadium, the seventh soccer-only arena built for teams in MLS.

The outcome left both teams with 36 points and facing possible elimination from the playoff picture this weekend.

A header by New York's Seth Stammler was saved by goalkeeper Nick Rimando, but van den Bergh one-timed the rebound past Rimando for the opening score of the game. Olave scored just over 10 minutes later off a corner kick from Javier Morales.

New York has not won since Sept. 13.
