Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Mario Ancic withdrew from the Stockholm Open after falling ill Friday and became the only one of the tournament's top four seeds to miss the semifinals.
Ancic, the second seed, was left on the sidelines while No. 1 David Nalbandian, No. 3 Jarkko Nieminen and No. 4 Robin Soderling won their quarterfinal matches.
Nalbandian, a former Wimbledon runner-up, disposed of Albert Montanes 6-4, 6-1. That set up a semifinal meeting with Nieminen, who defeated Oscar Hernandez 6-1, 6-4.
Soderling was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Rainer Schuettler. Soderling will take on wild card Kei Nishikori, who advanced when Ancic withdrew with a bout of acute bronchitis.
