PINELLAS PARK, Fla., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- St. Louis Cardinals' guru George Kissell was in critical condition after a car crash in Pinellas Park, Fla., a spokesman for Northside Hospital said.
Kissell, 88, was injured Monday night when the car in which he was riding collided with another car, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Tuesday.
The driver of Kissell's car, Stacy L. Lehart, of St. Petersburg, suffered minor injuries, while the driver of the other car, Karolyn K. Kidwell, of Pinellas Park, was hospitalized, police said.
Kissell worked for the Cardinals in a variety of jobs for 57 years, though he never played in the major leagues. A 1997 profile in the St. Petersburg Times said Kissell dedicated his career to teaching baseball, which earned him the nickname "Professor."
