

VIENNA, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Juan Carlos Ferrero upset fourth-seeded Ivo Karlovic in first-round action Monday at the $930,000 Bank Austria Tennis Trophy tournament in Vienna.
Ferrero took the tight 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) decision from Karlovic by virtue of the only service break of the match to win the first set and by hanging on to take the tie-breaker in putting the match away.
Meanwhile, fifth-seeded Fernando Verdasco got by Victor Crivoi in his first-round match. Feliciano Lopez and Carlos Moya both fought though two tie-breakers in advancing to the second round in straight sets. Lopez defeated Agustin Calleri 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4) and Moya took a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6) decision from Michael Berrer.
Also Monday, Guillermo Canas stopped Andreas Seppi 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 and Jan Hernych posted a comeback for a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Roko Karanusic.
The tournament continues through Sunday when the champion will collect a check for $187,000.
