Oklahoma retains top coaches poll spot

ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Oklahoma retained the No. 1 spot when the latest USA Today college football coaches poll was released Sunday night.

The Sooners (5-0) used their 49-17 win over Baylor to tune up for the annual Red River showdown against archrival Texas in Dallas next Saturday.

Missouri (5-0), LSU (4-0), Alabama (6-0) and the Longhorns (5-0) occupy spots 2-5.

Penn State (6-0), Texas Tech (5-0), Brigham Young (5-0), USC (3-1) and Georgia (4-1) are 6-10.

Ohio State, Florida, Utah, Vanderbilt, Kansas, Boise State, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Michigan State and South Florida are 11-20, with Wake Forest, Northwestern, Auburn, Wisconsin and California rounding out the top-25 spots.

Oregon, Fresno State and Connecticut dropped out of the poll after losses to the Trojans, Hawaii and North Carolina, respectively.
