DENVER, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Matt Prater's three field goals Sunday helped the Denver Broncos escape with a 16-13 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Prater's career-best 55-yarder created a 3-3 tie with 14:56 left in the first half. He added a 40-yarder in the second quarter, and his 27-yarder produced the contest's final points.
Quarterback Jay Cutler threw for 227 yards on 23-of-34 passing with a 10-yard third-quarter touchdown to wide receiver Brandon Stokley. Tight end Tony Scheffler made four receptions for 65 yards for the Broncos (4-1), who bounced back from a surprising 33-19 loss to Kansas City last Sunday.
Tampa Bay quarterback Brian Griese, a former Bronco, went 13-for-19 for a paltry 88 yards before departing with a right-shoulder injury.
Jeff Garcia completed 13-of-17 passes for 93 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Tampa Bay.
Warrick Dunn rushed for 74 yards on 11 carries, and Earnest Graham added 59 yards on 10 carries for the Buccaneers (3-2), whose three-game winning streak ended.
