TOKYO, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Samantha Stosur upset No. 2-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues in second-round play Thursday at the $175,000 Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo.

Stosur fired eight aces at Garrigues and had her serve broken just once in the 6-1, 7-5 victory. The decision puts Stosur in Friday's quarterfinals against eighth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak, who blew by Ryoko Fuda 6-1, 6-1 in her second-round match.

Top-seeded Carolina Wozniacki overpowered Ayumi Morita 6-2, 6-1 Thursday while Klara Zakopalova defeated Marta Domachowska 6-3, 6-0 and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova stopped Rika Fujiwara 6-2, 6-4 in a day of lop-sided matches.

In addition to the Stosur-Wozniak match Friday, Wozniacki takes on seventh-seeded Tamarine Tanasugarn, fifth-seeded Kaia Kanepi plays Pavlyuchenkova and Zakopalova faces Jarmila Gajdosova in the quarterfinals.
