MLB: Tampa Bay 6, Chicago White Sox 4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Evan Longoria hit two solo homers Thursday and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Chicago White Sox 6-4 in the opener of their American League Division Series.

The rookie third baseman finished with three hits and three RBI, and became the second player ever to homer in his first two post-season at-bats.

Minnesota's Gary Gaetti accomplished the feat against Detroit in game one of the 1987 AL Championship Series.

Akinori Iwamura had two hits and one RBI. Two others drove in a run and Jason Bartlett had two hits in the Rays' first-ever post-season contest.

Winning pitcher James Shields (1-0) gave up three earned runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Dan Wheeler, the last of four Rays' pitchers, earned a save, despite giving up Paul Konerko's ninth-inning solo homer.

Chicago also got a three-run homer by Dewayne Wise in the third.

The losing pitcher was starter Javier Vazquez (0-1).
